Types of Home Additions and How to Choose One
Realtors often talk about the importance of location; however, what if your location is perfect, but your home's space is not?
Maybe your family has grown, you need a home office, or a family member has come to stay. A home addition allows you to skip the moving truck and have the space and amenities you require as your needs change.
Here are the most common types of home additions:
Let's bring your
dream space to life.
- Attic/basement conversion: This is the best for adding living space without changing the footprint of your home. Although technically not an “addition”, this can be one of the most cost-effective ways to add practical living space.
- Conventional house addition: This is the best for major, multi-room home additions. A conventional house addition is a multi-room structure that is built onto the side of a house and is permanently open to the main house. A house addition can cover many areas: great room, dining room, family room, bathroom, or guest bedroom.
- Room addition or “bump out”: This is best for adding a single room to the home. A bump out is usually meant for a single function, such as a bedroom or bathroom. It also may be another 50 square feet added to your kitchen so you can squeeze in a kitchen island.
- Sunroom: Best for adding protected recreational space. A sunroom is an addition to the side of the house that is usually a supplemental living area. Sunrooms typically can be closed off to the main part of the house with sliding doors or French doors.
Do any of these options sound like what you’re looking for? What about a garage conversion? Whatever your needs are, we can help so your home can grow alongside your family.
